Artist Statement
The subject of this exhibition is high school students. The portraits serve as both an observance and celebration of their individual personality and confidence.
It is critical for their mental health and well-being that we not only support them through this destabilized time, but that we acknowledge their character, achievements, and perseverance in enduring it.
Adolescence is historically a tumultuous time of identity formation and heightened emotional experience. The youth of today are forced to navigate this challenging period with the additional burden of uncertainty and anxiety stemming from the COVID-19 Pandemic. School closures, remote learning, and isolation from friends and family are only a few of the pandemic stressors that they have been unexpectedly forced to endure.
